Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a very effective therapy used to help people process events or situations that are too difficult to naturally digest.  When a disturbing event occurs, our brain stores thoughts, feelings, sounds and body sensations that can involuntarily replay in our mind making our daily living more difficult.   Sometimes these disturbances appear in a form of flashbacks, anxiety or body sensations.

EMDR helps our brain naturally process events and situations through Bilateral Stimulation (a rhythmic side-to-side pattern stimulation), which simulates Rapid Eye Movement sleep allowing the brain a natural way of processing information.  Through this process, memory networks are activated, allowing the brain to remember important details and other memories to help us understand the event or situation in a way we can accept it.  It is the brain doing all the healing; therefore, the individual is always the one in control.
